The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine written by Peter Geiermann, a priest of the ancient and famous order of St. Charles Borromeo, was written in the form of dialogues between two disputing Catholics, and printed by Herder Book Company in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. The text appeared for the first time in January 1939. It came in a multi-colour green cover, was arranged as two volumes and contained 248 pages. The second edition was published in 1957 and the third and last in 1960. In these years Herder Book Company produced also a German-Danish translation of the book. The original text of the German edition, however, was changed for reasons of national policy. For the present edition of the English translation there were created in December 1962 and in October 1963 new English translations in two editions of the text and one of the introductions and/or appendices.
This edition of the book is based on the first edition (1939), but it was done from the second edition (1957), but on the basis of the fourth edition (1960), which is the most complete. But to harmonize the different editions the third and the fourth edition was used as a basis, which was done, while taking into account the slightly changed translation of some words in the third edition. For the further content a fifth and sixth edition was worked out. Due to the various texts of the different editions there was created a so-called unified edition.

Catechism of Catholic Doctrine
The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, by the priest Peter Geiermann, is a complete manual of Catholic doctrine. Through the following systematic dialogues, which express the thought of the author, the reader can gain a comprehensive view of the whole system of doctrine.
The author calls this work a "catechism," in that it was written as a means of instruction. By "catechism" he means a systematic exposition of a doctrine, in order that the teaching of the Church might be inculcated in the soul.
The text contains the Catechism of the Catholic Church, though revised, expanded and enriched in many particulars. This revision and addition is called the "convert's catechism," because it is written with the purpose of bringing the teachings of the Church to the spiritual understanding of the convert.
